GE LM2500 Turbine Compressor Controls Retrofit

Tarco Scope:

  • Retrofit two Stuart & Stevenson LM2500 packages in Texas
  • The replacement of the existing Unit Control System and Compressor Anti-Surge / Load Sharing system with Tarco designed redundant Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs
  • Design, procure, install and integrate all instrumentation required for the LM2500s
  • A brand new control building was built to accommodate new MCCs, UPS, and Control Panels
  • Replacement of all existing electrical and controls cabling on site
  • Upgrade of the existing Fire and Gas detection system
  • Upgrade of the existing Vibration system
  • Served as the primary contractor on site. Responsibility included coordinating and directing all engineering and site activities during the project
  • Performed detailed planning and pre-work, so that the commissioning window was not exceeded thus ensuring a project success

Lean Gas Station And Two RR Avon Turbine Controls Retrofit

Tarco’s Scope:

  • Engineered and supplied a new station control system using a TUV rated PLC system
  • Completed a PLC redundant controls system upgrade for two Avon turbine control systems
  • Design, draft and create control narratives and documentation to upgrade design for the existing GE PLC control systems
  • Fabrication, procurement, installation and commissioning of all control panels
  • Control network architecture hardware selection and design
  • All control system programming and control network configuration
  • Network design and communications work to enable the duplex communications between the three new control systems supplied with the main station DCS system
  • Provision of training courses to the client employees
  • Onsite start-up and commissioning of the two turbine control systems and new station control systems
  • Selection and management of electrical crew to assist Tarco in the termination of the new control panels
  • The unit control platforms were originally running on a Woodward system. Tarco upgraded them to run on GE PLC systems
  • A new station control system was installed for the lean gas unit, utilizing a TUV rated GE PLC system
  • The facility required load sharing between two gas turbine powered units, which Tarco completed on the unit PLC systems

RR 501K Turbine Generator Controls Retrofit With Water Injection Added

Tarco’s Scope:

  • Electrical design and drafting
  • Programming of the GE PLCs
  • Procurement of all control system hardware
  • Construction of control cabinets
  • Commissioning and site acceptance procedures
  • Training of plant staff
  • Network design and communications work to enable the duplex communications between the new control systems supplied with the main station control system
  • Load sharing design and commissioning to share load between the two gas turbines, as well as the recip power generator units.
  • This involves the automation of a power plant that utilizes gas turbines as prime movers. Controls included power balancing and load sharing of the gas turbine generator systems. Control was completed on the GE PLC platform.

RR 501K Turbine Generator Controls Retrofit

(New York, USA)

Tarco’s Scope:

  • Electrical design and drafting
  • Tarco provided a GE Rx3i turbine control system for two Rolls Royce 501K emergency backup generators, using existing Genius Block I/O
  • Provided emergency support in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2013
  • Replaced the Genius Block I/O modules with an Rx3i expansion rack and new I/O cards
  • Programming and electrical design replacing Genius I/O with an expansion rack
  • 24-hour around the clock commissioning and site acceptance with a third-party testing company
  • Coordination with all other construction activities

RR RB211 & GE LM2500 Turbine Test Facility

Tarco’s Scope:

  • To provide a single control system that could test, to OEM specifications, both the Rolls-Royce RB211-24G and the General Electric LM2500+ industrial turbines, without having to make physical changes to the system
  • Designed HMI with engine specific screens, but with a similar look and design to ensure that the operators can easily operate both engines
  • Implement control modes which included Ignition and Start Ramp Control, Speed Control with Dynamic Gains, EGT Control with Dynamic Gains, Acceleration/Deceleration Control and IGV Control (RB211) and VSV Control (LM2500)
  • Protection System: Start Permissives, Engine Trips and Shutdowns
  • HMI-Configurable Engine and I/O Setpoints
  • Engine test facility certification by both Rolls-Royce and GE
